Fall break just passed and we all (hopefully) caught up on some much-needed R&R. This semester has been a stressful one for me at least, as I’m sure it has been for most of you, and I could not wait for the long weekend to come. The last few days were great, but it got my friends and I talking about how we could find ways to relax and take a break while at school. We came up with a few ideas I think UVa students should definitely consider:
- Hot tub at the AFC. This hot tub is one of the largest hot tubs on the entire east coast and I myself have never tried it. My friends and I plan on soaking one night after a long, stressful day. If you check out the AFC website it is described as “a warm-water leisure pool”…enough said.
- Sauna at the AFC. Also in the aquatic facilities located right next to the hot tub is a sauna. This is a resource I can say I have used before and it is AWESOME. After finishing my workouts upstairs I’ve gone and sat in the sauna to unwind and stretch out. You feel amazing after and I would definitely recommend it.
- Massage Therapy. IM Rec Sports offers massage therapy at the AFC. Here’s the link to the website with a listing of all their rate and options: recsports.virginia.edu/massage-therapy. From a hot stone massage to a deep tissue massage, the options sound awesome and like a great way to treat yourself.
- Mind and Body drop-in group exercise classes. There are a bunch of different types of yoga options… Yoga R&R stood out to me in particular on the listing of classes. (http://recsports.virginia.edu/group-exercise-class-descriptions) “This class will leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed and renewed.” Yes please.
I’m going to keep this list handy when my friends and I are feeling particularly overwhelmed with our studies. UVa facilities offer so many options that students don’t even know about. I’m sure there are many more opportunities for relaxation in UVa facilities so keep looking!
