Fresh off of a two-game sweep of George Washington to finish off the fall season with a 7-3 record, members of UVA Club Baseball are looking forward to making a playoff push this spring. With only spring games counting towards their conference record and playoff qualification, the team can use their positive fall play as momentum going forward.
Both Club President Michael Lord and Vice President Pete DeLuca appreciate that they’re able to continue playing the game they love, and both make sure to manage their class work so they don’t have to miss any practices or games. “I never want to miss anything…this keeps me motivated to stay on top of my school work,” said DeLuca.
Playing on the Club Baseball team has provided plenty of memories for Lord, DeLuca, and their teammates: from sweeping Virginia Tech after showing up 15 minutes before the first game, to winning a game on a steal of home plate, and many more. The first game of the fall season was a special one for Lord. “We made a comeback to go into extra innings and then wound up winning. It was pretty intense and we all played well. The best part was that we were able to do it in front of some of our friends who came.”
Both are hopeful that the new additions to their solid core of players will allow the team to create a new memory: clinching a spot in the playoffs. Lord noted that this year’s team is closer than those in the past, and perhaps this camaraderie can propel them to a playoff berth.
All of us at IM-Rec Sports would like to congratulate the team on a successful fall season and wish them luck in the spring!
