Favorite IM-Rec Sports memory?
It’s hard to pick just one favorite memory from my last three years as an IM-Rec Sports employee. Overall, I think my favorite part of the job is being able to spend time with all of my awesome co-workers. Some of my favorite people work (or have worked) with me at Mem Gym and I would have never met them otherwise if it weren’t for this job. I truly enjoy going to work and having the opportunity to talk with my fellow Supervisors and Attendants (in between swiping cards of course). They are always there for me when I need them. My co-workers can always put a smile on my face with their entertaining stories and positive attitudes.
How do you play on Grounds?
When I am not spending time at Mem Gym (which is rare since I spend more time at Mem than at my own apartment), I play on Grounds by participating in Intramural Sports. Every year I compete on several intramural teams -- from softball, to basketball, to volleyball, to sand volleyball. I have always loved playing sports and being active, so playing on these teams is a great way for me to have fun, spend time with friends and fit exercise into my busy schedule. I always look forward to going to my various games each week. Because there are so many great athletes at UVA, intramurals can get pretty intense and I enjoy the competition.
Some of my favorite intramural sports memories include playing sand volleyball with my Mem Gym co-workers in the spring on our home court sand and beating the previously undefeated Law School in the softball championship with a group of friends. Look out for the "Mem Gems" as we take the sand for some volleyball action this spring in the pursuit of our own heavily sought-after IM-Rec Sports Champion t-shirts!
I couldn’t have asked for a better job these past three years at the best gym on Grounds! (I may be a bit biased.)
